Games to play + Twilight Imp.
  • Yanagion August 2010
    Hey guys,
As ever, I'm always looking for new 2-player games to inflict upon Emma. After chatting with Joe this evening, I was inspired to go on to Geek in an effort to expand my 2-player games stock. So, before I try to buy these, I thought I'd ask if anyone in Magers owned copies, so I can play it briefly on Tuesday and get a feel for whether Emma might like it.

    Here's my list:
    1. Caesar and Cleopatra http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/132/caesar-cleopatra --- Out of stock at Games Lore
    2. Babel (not tower of...) http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/986/babel
    3. Jambo http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12002/jambo --- Out of stock at Games Lore

Also, I'd really like to play Twilight Imperium (yeah, I know it's not a 2-player). Does anyone have a copy in the group and is up for organising a games day some weekend soon?

I have a few 2 player games that you're welcome to borrow if you like.

    Balloon cup
    Battle Line
    Yinsh
    Zertz
Blue Moon City (supports more but supposedly good for 2)

I am also always on the lookout for good 2 player games

Thanks, Joe. I'll bring in Citadels and Jaipur as well, so you and yours can partake of some Maharajah-pleasing in India.

Emma should be in on Tuesday, so we could try a couple there, I guess. Should a filler option present.

Caesar and Cleopatra is a good choice.
    I was disappointed with Jambo.

There is also "Lost Cities" and "Odin's Ravens" from that series of games, which are both good.

And you've forgotten about the best 2 player game....Scrabble!

Odin's Ravens sounds fun. Anyone have that? :P

Descent works with 2 (one player can take, say, 3 adventurers). We also like Brass (take 2 colours each, play all colours independently per normal rules, side with highest total VPs wins). And WOTR.

I'm always looking out for decent 2P games, keep the thread going folks!

My favourite games for two players are in fact Race for the Galaxy and Le Havre, I hear Caylus is ok for two, anyone concur?

Lots of games, including Caylus, are 'ok' for 2 I am sure but I feel that they are better with multiplayers. I have played and enjoyed (and frequently lose to Stew) Race for Galaxy for 2 as the dual action cards are an interesting mechanic.

I have been looking at reviews for 1960: The Making of the President. It's not as long as Twilight Struggle, but it's about politics. Don't know how deep it is. My gf can just about stomach the shorter version of Le Havre and won't touch Through the Ages with a barge pole. Has anyone tried this?

Sorry Joe, no experience with those games. I can however safely say that Innovation works well with 2 players, having played it around 15 times in the past 10 days, without once feeling bored.

Carcassonne Castle is an excellent version of the Carc game series for 2 players only.
  • brendannewell September 2010
My favourite 2 player has to be War of the Ring.
Others that I enjoy in 2 player are Carcassonne, Hacienda, The Lord of the Rings board game, Lost Cities, Dominion, Mijnlieff and Race for the Galaxy :)

Agreed, WOTR is awesome 2 player. Games don't get better than that. I also have the CE version, paid for from my Warhammer Quest sale last autumn. It was pricey but theyve doubled in value...

BTW just made £460 selling off our Heroscape collection! That's a nice budget with Essen coming...

Any chance that I can borrow or receive a demo in the Carcassonne Castle game, Andy? Emma's down on Tuesday next week, so she'll be at gaming.

... Cancel that, I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon for £15 (inc. postage). Thanks for the recommendation, Andy!

OMG, I so wanted to get it but couldn't quite justify the expense ;-)
