------------------------------- Photojournalist: one of the worst jobs in 2009
The Wall Street Journal has published its list of the 200 best and worst jobs in 2009. At the top of the list is Actuary with a top-level salary of $161,000 and software engineers, who can hope to earn $129,000. Photojournalists, on the other hand, are way down in that list, coming in 189th position with a starting salary of $16,000 and a top-level salary of $60,000.
Only 11 other positions are considered worse than being a photojournalist. They are: Butcher, Mail Carrier, Meter Reader, Construction Worker, Taxi Driver, Garbage Collector, Welder, Dairy Farmer, Ironworker, Lumberjack and Roustabout... -------------------------------
Meh, this would be so bad were it not for the fact that after my first degree in Astrophysics, I was told that the only way I'd ever get a job is if some other astrophysist somewhere died... :-/
Anyone know a guy in Actuary that I could be apprentisted to? ... I'm willing to take his photo and/or provide interesting Hale-bopp factums. I also have qualifications in Massage but I'd expect a really good starting salary if he'd want those skills, too.
I know an Actuary but I think he's good for halle-bopp factum calcuating, photographing masseuse's at the moment...I'll let you know if that changes tho! ;-)
if it's any consolation, I don't think what you do as a 'photojournalist' qualifies as a proper job since most of the time, you do not actually get paid :) being appreciated by some adults dressed as stormtroopers does not actually count....
How about if I'm appreciated, still for free, by guys and girls playing musical instruments / people with new and innovative art performances / societies for the protection of animals from cruelty / conference scriptwriters? ... That counts, right?
Seriously would have thought butcher would have come higher than you... its a great job. The list was clearly written (as most such lists are) by muppets! Plus considering that the list is compiled and published by journalists it probably has a slight bias towards their own constant moaning about how bad their life is.... and seriously you would rate lower than someone in a care home whose job it is to wipe peoples backsides for minimum wage? Believe not all that you read grasshopper.
Yeah, I know a couple of actuaries. They have great starting salaries, the salary continues to be good but they don't get much beyond that. I imagine that there are many other finacial sector jobs that you can get much higher salaries in. Also, they both complain that less and less companies are bothering with actuaries so the future isn't all that rosy. And do you know what an actuary does?
I think the worst jobs sound quite good. Especially roustabout, I have no idea what that is.
